Project started October 2023,

After mocking up the starter on the transmission we noticed the teeth were not engaging properly and would not last very long. Upon further investigation the problem was not in the starter but in the transmission housing. The holes for the studs had all been drilled in the wrong location. In the factory. We calculated they would need to move 1.1 millimeter to get proper teeth engagement.

We decided to turn the holes in the starter flange into slots, so we figured out the correct angle and machined all the holes into slots.

The starter teeth now engaged properly, but we had some concerns that the whole flange might move after a while. Aad made 3 little steel C shaped filler pieces and we tapped these into 3 of the slots securely holding the starter flange in the correct position. Now we could finally install the kicker cover!

We removed part of the frame jig to make space for the starter and put the transmission in the frame. Next week clutch and belt!
