Nadine and Florian bought an old springer fork and had also
found a nice little 2-leading shoe drumbrake and asked me to help
matching these together. Sure! Upon inspecting the springer I
found that there were some nissing parts and some that were quite
worn out. I also found that the forks were British and all the
nuts and bolts were Whitworth Fine (BSF) threads, which are very
difficult to find nowadays...
The 4 rocker bolts were all there, but the hexagonal holes
were very damaged and I did not want to give them back like that.
Replacement bolts were impossible to find so I took them to my
friends at Heemskerk Metaalbewerking and they put in new oversized
hex holes.
Next on the list, all 4 pivots were completely worn out, and
even the holes in the rockers were worn both tapered and oval.
I machined all 4 holes to exactly 20 mm and made new oversized
bushings with undersized holes from bronze. These I pressed intio
the rockers with a bit of Loctite to make extra sure they would
stay there.
As the 4 pivot bolts all had slightly different diameters,
I used adjustable reamers to make each bushing fit the matching
bolt perfectly
