Project started October 2023,

We amputated the rear 50 mm or so from the gastank as we wanted to get rid of the stubby rearend. Then we ducktaped some roofmate (insulation foam) in the opening and shaped that with the beltsander and file.
Once we were happy with the new shape we made a tape pattern and transferred that to some steel sheet.

Aad preshaped the new piece roughly with hammer and sandbag and then tacked it in place. All the remaining paint was removed so we could better see where the metal needed to be smoothed and / or shaped more. Before welding the seam fully the metal was aligned using the planishing hammer. The idea is to remove as little material as possible by sanding and grinding, but to raise the low spots and hanmmer down the high spots.

This is a pretty time-consuming process but in the last pics the result is getting close, however in the reflections you can still see some areas that need more work, so to be continued!
