This week, we made a drill-template from a piece of nylon to help us figure out where to drill the frame for the rubbermounts. We also machined a piece of 13 mm steel bar and drilled and tapped both ends to fit the silentmounts.

We drilled the frame all the way through with a 14 mm drill, carefully checked that the tank would sit perfectly level and then welded in the threaded steel rod. We then decided to weld shut all the holes in the neck area of the frame that I had drilled in the past to mount the various tanks that have been on my bike in the last 17 years. There were some holes in the front downtubes that were no longer in use, so we closed those too.

We bent a section of flat steel 60 x 5 mm in the same angle as the tank and cut a 5 mm gap in the neck casting of the frame. The idea is to make the bottom and the front of the tank look very clean and to create a mounting point for the front rubbermounts. We drilled a hole in the front flat section where the wiring from the headlight will enter and then welded the flat strip into place.
