Project started October 2023,

In total Aad made 6 covers, 2 sets with different types of aluminum and one steel set. The harder aluminum type (the shinier ones in the pics) needed to be annealed, the other two materials worked without any heat treatment. Next was to drill the mounting holes and open up the center hole to the correct size.

After machining a nylon plug that fit in the rotating table and clocking it to be exactly centered under the Bridgeport we drilled 5 holes, 72 degrees apart, in each of the six covers. We will be using the aluminum covers for this bike (Aad's Knucklehead) and the steel sets will go on Cadbike 1 (my Shovelhead)

So, for the Knucklehead we needed a big hole on the left cover where the drumbrake and sprocket are, and a small hole for the right cover. This will cover the hub which is way too modern looking for a Knuck anyway. For my Shovelhead, which has discbrakes, we needed 2 holes of 111 mm

As I write this the steel covers are being powdercoated in the same light ivory as the rim. For the aluminum covers we want to experiment with aging (ageing?) the aluminum, so it is a good thing that we have a spare set!
