Project started October 2023,

To machine the other side of the wheel we first mounted the left hub in the lathe, clocked it to within 0.01 mm, and then bolted the wheel to it. To be able to reach the bolts Aad borrowed every extension piece he could find to reach the bolts through the spindel of the big Ursus lathe. Just enough material was removed so that the right hub would run perfectly concentric and parallel to the left hub. Speaking of which, we still needed to actually make that right hub.

The rightside hub is a lot simpler than the left side, as both brake and sprocket are on the left. We machined it from the same C45 material we used for the other side. There are 2 sealed bearings on the left and 1 on the right, with a stepped spacer inbetween. (which I forgot to take a picture of)

Thanks to Ralph the Spokeman we found the tire we wanted, it is a modern 15" with size 170/80 that looks like a Firestone, but wider. Next week we will offset the sprocket so the chain won't touch the side of the tire.
