Although I will be the first to admit that this project is gouing
slow there has been some progress. After discovering
that the stock dash was no longer going to fit I decided to make
my own. I started by scanning the tanks while mounted on the frame
to get the exact dimensions of the opening between them. While
I was there I also welded up a hole in the seatpost that would
no longer be used and removed the stock coil mount bungs as the
coil will be hidden between the tanks. |
After modeling the tanks in CAD I found that the opening was
slightly different on both sides but never mind, I made the first
design for the dash panel. Inspired by Ed Roth's showcars from
the sixties I was thinking of doing a transparant bubble over
the speedo. I made a 3d print of my first design to check the
dimensions and gaps, unfortunately I had not noticed that it moved
a bit when I took the pictures but it fit nicely. |

I changed the design a few more times, the latest version has
a 2-piece frame and the part with the bubble can swivel up. In
the picture there is a Motogadget speedo but I will probably change
that for something a bit more classic. At the moment the rear
part has already been machined and the front part is under construction.
I also had a template machined and polished that will be used
to vacuum form the bubble in clear polycarbonate. |
