Last week I receiuved a lot of questions about where
I get the dimensions
for these CAD motors and whether or not the models are accurate.
In this case I used scanned data as a starting point. I will import
the scanned
part in STL format as a starting point. In an STL file all the scanned
points have been
connected by little triangles (facets). This means that a round hole
is not round any
more, but a polygon made of a number of straight lines. I make the facet
model
transparant green, put it on a separate layer and start building a new
CAD
model using the scan data for reference. When the model is complete
I hide the layer
with the scanned data and have an accurate new model.
